Comrades, September has become a month of remembrance. I want to encourage you to take a moment and reflect on the significance of Sept. 11, which marks the anniversary where our nation collectively held its breath in shock, and unified over grief and resolve for justice. Many of our members were children during this tragedy in 2001, while others were already retired from military service. In either case, you all answered the call to show up, no matter the cost, when your nation asked you, and I thank you. I hope the anniversary of Sept. 11 brings us closer together in the memory of those we lost, and reflect on the American resolve to never back down from injustice against our people. Further, Sept. 15 is National POW/MIA Day. This day we take another pause to honor those who never came home, and were prisoners of war during their service. Together, we remember them. I hope to see you at our annual Fall Conference in Flint, Sept. 29-Oct. 1. Fall conference is a highlight for me because distance forces many of us to only see each other a few times per year. I'm excited to greet you as we convene to support each other in a common goal, to serve our veteran and family community.

September marks National Suicide Prevention month, and unfortunately, the topic of suicide is something all too familiar to the veteran community. As your Mental Health Wellness program director, this month is about psychoeducation, resources, and most of all support to all of you who struggle with mental barriers to discover your God given purpose and to allow others to be a beacon for HOPE to you.
