Comrades,

I can't believe its already May! Time has flown by this year and our State Convention is less than a month away. As much as I wish this year wouldn't end, I'm very excited to gather with you for the convention. I hope to see as many of you there as can attend. Details for the convention can be found on our website here and below in this newsletter.

The year ending also means deadlines are approaching. Please be sure your VFW Post leadership have submitted all final reports prior to May 10. Completing these in time are crucial for your Post's success.

Congratulations to our VFW Pool League for completing their 56th Pool Tournament. I played this year, and even though I didn't come away with a trophy, it was an amazing time! Also, congratulations to Erick Calley and Shane Houghton for successfully completing their fundraising efforts to restore the Ionia Civil War Flag! We are so grateful to you, and everyone involved who worked to preserve Michigan's military history.

Thank you all for an amazing year! You have worked relentlessly to advocate for veterans and impact your communities throughout Michigan. I am so proud to have been your commander this year. I hope to see all of you at State Convention!

Ray Lopez, State Commander, VFW Department of Michigan
