Comrades,

Thank you all for working so hard in your communities through advocacy and positioning your VFW Posts as a place for all veterans and their families. Our Department officers are working hard for you to meet any needs you have as you serve our veterans.

I ask you for helps in supporting a legislative initiative to provide Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment to Michigan veterans. Please sign this petition to let our legislators know that the VFW is supportive of this alternative treatment for veterans in need. Our voices matter, and together, our voices are louder.

I am continuously amazed by the spirit and relentless efforts you all make to serve Michigan veterans. I am so proud to be your commander and hope to see as many of you as possible at our upcoming State Convention. Thank you for your service!

More than a Game

The legacy of the VFW Pool Tournament

In 1968, a friendly challenge to a game of pool was thrown out between VFW members from different parts of Michigan. Now, 56 years later, the VFW Michigan Pool League has attracted hundreds of veterans who compete annually in the longest running statewide tournament in Michigan and is the only state league in the VFW nationally.

Ionia Civil War Flag sent to restoration

The VFW Department of Michigan and community donors have raised $50,000 for the restoration of the last known Civil War battle banner on public display in Michigan. The flag was taken from the Ionia County Courthouse April 2 by the Save the Flags Michigan State Capitol Commission, and is now on its way to restoration. The flag was a gift to the 21st Infantry Regiment by the Ladies of Ionia in 1862, and given back to the people after the war. Now, the community has raised $50,000 for its preservation. Thank you to everyone who donated to this project and the preservation of Michigan military history! You can read more about this project here.

Volunteer Opportunity: Michigan Veterans Homes

At Michigan Veteran Homes, we offer numerous opportunities to individuals, groups, and organizations to get involved in our mission and to make a difference in the lives of our members.

For example, the Wolverine Skyhawks recently visited MVHGR to share their remarkable aircraft display with our members. At MVHCT, Paws, Awes & Claws brought by kindles of kittens and clowders of cats - all of whom received lots of love from MVH members.

Whether you want to individually volunteer, have a small group host or sponsor an event, or are seeking a service-type project, connect with MVH to explore potential options for impacting the lives of our veterans.

Those interested in supporting the MVH mission and members can learn more by visiting our website at www.michigan.gov/mvh.
